Weekend Plans: ‘J.Edgar’, Pacquiao Vs. Marquez, UFC, ‘Modern Warfare 3′, and more
(I’m down to see J.Edgar this weekend because historical scandals are always fun…but I love this Funny or Die spoof of L.DiCaprio too. I totally forgot that Shakespeare in Love won Best Picture over Saving Private Ryan! Shameful.
Living for the weekend, I know you guys can relate. And I can’t complain too much because I’m blessed with a very flexible schedule. But whether you have a 9-5 at an office, a 6-9 with the kids, an 8-4 at school, or a 24-hour blog cycle….who doesn’t look forward to “me time”? So maybe we can start sharing the things that we want to see, eat, read, and do on a more substantive basis here on the blog?
MOVIES:
J.Edgar: Clint Eastwood directs Leonardo DiCaprio in a historical drama about the FBI’s maniacal moral-enforcer J. Edgar Hoover…but it’s not just about wiretapping adulterous politicians and violating privacy laws…there’s also Hoover’s lifelong gay bro-mance with Clyde Tolson (played by Arme Hammer aka The Winklevoss Twins).
Vote: Yes. My cousins saw J.Edgar and liked it. Other folks say it’s heavyhanded. I’d see it, but Gran Torino was so bad. Mystic River though…so good.
Jack and Jill: Adam Sandler’s Big Momma’s House.
Vote: Nyet, No, Non, Hell No!
London Blvd: This action flick is getting no promo, but I’m definitely trying to see it. And not just because of Colin Farrell. It just looks like a fun thriller that Jason Statham was too busy for. Thug gets out of jail, tries to keep his nose clean, protects Keira Knightley, gets tested by former crimeys…add hot London flavor. (Watch the trailer after the jump)
Vote: Sold!
More of my “me time” plans: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Marquez,
After the jump
(London Blvd trailer: see, this doesn’t look too bad.)
One last note about movies…I’m horrified that there’s a Korean remake of John Woo’s classic gangster flick A Better Tomorrow…produced by John Woo!! But obviously I will be adding this to my Netflix queue all the same.
TELEVISION:
Manny Pacquiao Vs. Juan Miguel Marquez (Saturday, Nov 12, 9pm, pay-per-view): Judging from the two previous bouts between these two, I’m predicting….that both men will look like hamburger at the end. *shivers*
Vote: I can’t wait to watch! It’ll be all the great boxing that we want from Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, without any of the gross posturing and disrespect.
Cain Velasquez vs Junior Dos Santos (Saturday, Nov. 12, 9pm, FOX). It’s the UFC’s first event on network TV and their start of a 7-year deal with Fox. Reportedly, the UFC is giving up $ 40million in pay-per-view money on just this one event.
Vote: Hopefully I can switch back and forth between the Pac-man vs. Marquez fight and this mixed martial arts event. I’m not a hardcore MMA fan, but I like watching man reduced to pure survival rage, lol.
Sunday Night DVR Schedule:
The Good Wife (CBS): Seriously. I know it’s on the old people network but it’s really good.
Homeland (Showtime): fantastic terrorism CIA drama.
Boardwalk Empire (HBO): super strong season so far.
GAMING:
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: The latest Call of Duty videogame broke a bunch of records, selling around 6.5 million copies in 24 hours. That’s bananas.
Vote: I’m a huge fan of the COD series and I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t even have MW3 yet. Just been too busy. But my pals love it and I definitely plan to get on it. But I keep hearing that Battlefield 3 is even better…hmm.
Related, our friends at GamerTagRadio posted Best Buy’s upcoming Black Friday videogame sales. Black Friday is a nightmare!
One of my favorite parts of the week is on Saturday and Sunday morning when I get my New York Times delivery and an overpriced hipster coffee. Always little tidbits that I learn (and occasionally some snooty things I hate, lol). So maybe I’ll try to share those little things too….kind of seems like a good tumblr. But I’d really like for it to be housed here on the blog. I’ll figure it out.
