Sucker Free is back in effect. MTV2 has tapped New York City DJ/radio personality DJ Envy (Power 105.1) to host a new weekday (Monday-Thursday) revival of its hit music video countdown Sucker Free.
Envy — who also hosts “Hip Hop Nation” on Sirius XM Satellite Radio — has garnered production credits working with artists such as Fabolous, Foxy Brown, and DMX.
“During the week, DJ Envy will present the hit videos taking over the hip-hop game on Sucker Free Daily. From club bangers to tracks that make the speakers jump, “Sucker Free Daily” is the show to see for hot new music taking over the airways. For the latest news in music, movies and entertainment, “Sucker Free News” segments will feature the biggest hip-hop stories hitting the wire. Sucker Free Daily will download music fans on everything from the latest online exclusives to top ringtones to the regional radio hits,” the network revealed in a press statement issued Thursday.
Envy will also host Sucker Free Countdown each Sunday at noon: “DJ Envy will serve up the top 15 videos of the week. He will also sit down with the freshest faces in music, catch up with legends in the industry and get the inside scoop on everything from film to entertainment to sports. In addition, viewers will hear recaps of the top stories that grabbed the headlines throughout the week.”
Sucker Free Daily premieres this Monday, March 15 @ 3 PM on MTV2. Miami’s own DJ Khaled will stop be the first episode to talk about his new album Victory.
Didn’t they almost have it all?
Child star-turned-soap stud Darius McCrary’s shortlived marriage to retired rap industry ho Karrine “Superhead” Steffans in no more. McCrary — who replaced Shemar Moore as Malcom Winters on the CBS daytime drama The Young & The Restless — served his controversial spouse with divorce papers last month, pulling the plug on the nearly year-old marriage just days before Valentine’s Day.
While Darius, now 33, says he still cares about Karrine, the volatile nature of their stormy romance has become too much for him to bare.
“I will always love Karrine and her son, but we are not good together. It was just time for us to go our separate ways,” the actor revealed in the March 22 issue of The National Enquirer.
A source close to the warring exes tells the tab: “He hoped he and Karrine could remain friends. Even though he was filing, he sent flowers to remind Karrine that he still cares about her. He wanted to say let’s go our separate ways, but wish each other well.”
Karrine, on the other hand, insist Darius was unfaithful to her. A claim the soap star denies.
“He cheated on me. You can’t cover that up with a bouquet of flowers!”
The pair have certainly enjoyed a bumpy road in their three years together. You may recall that Karrine — a New York Times Best-Selling Author once romantically-linked to half the hip-hop community — tried to mow Darius down with her car after he allegedly choked her in a Los Angeles parking lot in 2008. And of course there was the time she aired him out with anal beads:
A lawyer for DMX has appealed to TV addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky to enroll the troubled rap star in the next season of the VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab.
“DMX has been battling addiction for some time, and he’s in need of treatment,” says Gary Jenkins, attorney for the rapper who was busted in Arizona Tuesday for allegedly violating the terms of his probation by using cocaine.
It was the fifth arrest for the lyricist in the past year.
“We’re hoping that maybe Dr. Drew might be able to help him,” Jenkins says. “He’s a talented man. We’re praying for him.”

LAS VEGAS — It might have been the day before 311 Day, but the festivities were already in full swing Wednesday night at the Jet nightclub at the Mirage Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The official 311 Fan Party at Jet served as the epicenter for die-hard fans from all over the country to converge — and converge they did.
Fans packed the line in droves even before the doors opened at 9 p.m. Jet let its usual formal dress code slide for the night, allowing fans to show their true colors in 311 T-shirts, hats, and plenty of tattoos. By 11 p.m., the line of fans stretched all the way to the entrance of the Mirage. But you didn't have to see them to feel their presence — their chants of "311!" could be heard all the way to the blackjack tables.
Inside the club, 311 music was blasting on the speakers — and that's where MTV News' guest correspondents Dave Kosin and Lauren Black, (winners of the 311 Day contest) were hard at work. The pair were meeting old friends and new ones from all over the country: ecstatic fans from Lauren's home state of Texas to a local Las Vegas couple who booked a hotel room to take part in the activities.
But it was a fan from across the pond that proved just how die-hard 311 fans are. He told Dave, "I had to threaten to resign from my job to be allowed to come." For him, a week without pay ended up being a small penalty for his first-ever 311 Day.
He could hardly contain his excitement. "In England they never play a 311 song, so even tonight, it's just wow! It's amazing — tomorrow is going to be the best day of my life," he said with a smile.
MTV News will have much more from 311 Day for the rest of this week!
